What is the difference between a portrait and documentary photography? Any websites available? URGENT!

Well a portrait is generally a posed picture of a person. Much like school photos for instance.





A documentary photograph could be a portrait but it is part of series of photographs depicting a story or event. An example would be homeless people in a city or soldiers in Iraq.

In general, portraits are a controlled shoot where the lighting is completely controlled and uses perhaps four or more lights.





In general, documentary images are shot using the existing lighting in the environment where the subject lives or works.
Reply:Portraits usually is posed. Documentary is usually a live picture and is not posed for the camera.
